GoCardless — collect rent by direct debit

What this does

After you connect GoCardless and a tenant signs a mandate, every rent schedule is collected automatically on the due date. The payment lands in your GoCardless balance ~3 working days later (standard Bacs cycle).

Failed payments (insufficient funds, mandate cancelled) trigger an Estate-HQ notification + the schedule stays open for follow-up.

Setup

1. Sign up at GoCardless as a UK merchant. 2. Contact GoCardless support to request OAuth Partner access — this is invite-only for partner platforms like us. 3. Once granted, open Settings → Integrations → GoCardless in Estate-HQ. 4. Click Connect GoCardless →, sign in with your merchant account. 5. Approve the read_write scope.

Tenant mandate sign-up

When you mark a tenancy as "Pay by direct debit", we send the tenant a hosted GoCardless mandate-signup link. They fill in their bank details, GoCardless authenticates via Open Banking (or Bacs), the mandate becomes live in ~5 minutes.

Disconnecting

Click Disconnect. Your GoCardless token is wiped. Existing mandates stay live in GoCardless's system — you can still manage them from the GoCardless dashboard.
